If you're a Premier League fan in Canada, you already know the drill: coffee at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday, maybe an alarm at 4:30 if you're out in BC. English football runs on a UK clock, and betting it from here means planning around that. Add crypto to the mix and there's another layer: coins that move on weekends, cashiers that never close and deposits you can make while the banks are asleep. This guide pulls it all together: when the games actually start for you, how the main markets settle, a simple way to price a match yourself, how futures work when your stake is in crypto, and a weekend routine that keeps your bankroll in one piece.
The ground rules: 19+ in most provinces, 18+ in Manitoba and Quebec. This site does not serve Ontario or Alberta residents. Cloudbet, linked on this page, holds a Curaçao licence and is not authorized by any Canadian province, and it is not authorized in Quebec. All odds, probabilities and prices below are invented examples to show the maths. No real teams, fixtures or tips.

The league in one paragraph
The Premier League has 20 clubs. Each plays the other 19 twice, home and away, for 38 matches and 380 games in total. A win is worth three points, a draw one. The season usually runs from August to May. The bottom three are relegated and replaced by three clubs coming up from the Championship. Places near the top lead into European competitions. That simple structure creates the markets you'll see: single matches every week, plus season-long bets on the title, the top places, relegation and individual awards.
Kick-off times in Canada
Times shift a little through the year because the UK and Canada change their clocks on different weekends, and broadcasters move matches around. As a rough guide, the common UK Saturday slots land like this for most of the season:
| UK slot | Eastern (Toronto/Montreal) | Pacific (Vancouver) |
|---|---|---|
| 12:30 PM | 7:30 AM | 4:30 AM |
| 3:00 PM | 10:00 AM | 7:00 AM |
| 5:30 PM | 12:30 PM | 9:30 AM |
Prairie and Atlantic fans can slide those an hour or two either way. Sunday and midweek slots vary more, so always confirm the start time in your own time zone on the day.
Why it matters for betting: team news usually lands about an hour before kick-off. If you're placing bets the night before, you're betting before lineups are known. That's fine for some markets, risky for others like player props. And early alarms make for sleepy decisions, so set your weekend card the evening before and don't add to it half-awake.
The 90-minute rule
This is the one that catches hockey and basketball fans. In soccer, almost all match markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties don't count unless the market says so, and in the Premier League itself there's no extra time anyway because draws are a normal result. So:
- 1X2 (home / draw / away) is a three-way market. If you back the home side and it ends 1-1, you lose.
- Cup ties can go to extra time, but "to qualify" or "to lift the trophy" markets are different from the 90-minute 1X2. Read the market name.
Our French-language guide to the win-or-draw market covers double chance in more depth.
Reading a 1X2 price and stripping the margin
Take an example price of 2.10 home, 3.40 draw, 3.60 away. Add the implied chances: 1/2.10 + 1/3.40 + 1/3.60 = 104.81%. Strip out the extra and the fair chances are about 45.4% home, 28.1% draw and 26.5% away. For a heavier favourite at 1.50 / 4.20 / 6.50, the book adds up to 105.86% and the fair chances are about 63.0%, 22.5% and 14.5%.
| Example prices | Book total | Fair home / draw / away |
|---|---|---|
| 2.10 / 3.40 / 3.60 | 104.81% | 45.4% / 28.1% / 26.5% |
| 1.50 / 4.20 / 6.50 | 105.86% | 63.0% / 22.5% / 14.5% |
The odds calculator does this in a second. Make it a habit before every bet.
Pricing a match yourself: a simple goals model
Football scores are low, and a classic way to model them is to estimate how many goals each team is likely to score on average, then use a Poisson distribution to turn those averages into chances for every scoreline. It's simple and imperfect, but it's how a lot of people start. Here are four made-up matchups:
| Expected goals (home – away) | Home win | Draw | Away win | Fair odds H / D / A | Over 2.5 | Both teams score |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 – 1.2 | 44.1% | 25.5% | 30.4% | 2.27 / 3.92 / 3.29 | 50.6% | 54.3% |
| 1.9 – 0.9 | 60.8% | 21.9% | 17.3% | 1.64 / 4.57 / 5.78 | 53.1% | 50.5% |
| 2.4 – 0.7 | 75.1% | 15.9% | 9.0% | 1.33 / 6.28 / 11.13 | 59.9% | 45.8% |
| 1.3 – 1.3 | 36.8% | 26.4% | 36.8% | 2.72 / 3.79 / 2.72 | 48.2% | 52.9% |
A few things jump out. Even when two teams are equal, a draw is only around one chance in four, so "it'll be a draw" is a low-percentage call. A heavy favourite at 2.4 – 0.7 still only wins about three times in four. And the most likely single scoreline is usually something like 1-1, 1-0 or 2-0, each around 10% to 13%, which is why correct-score bets pay so much.
The hard part, of course, is getting the expected goals right. Shot quality, injuries, fixture congestion and tactical style all go into it. If your averages aren't better than the market's, the model just gives you a neat way to lose money with confidence.
Asian handicaps without the headache
Asian handicaps remove or split the draw, which suits a league where draws are common. Using the 1.5 – 1.2 example above (home 44.1%, draw 25.5%, away 30.4%):
- Home 0 (draw no bet). Win if home wins, stake back on a draw, lose if away wins. Fair price about 1.69. At 1.70, the expected value is just above zero, around +0.5%.
- Home -0.25. Half your stake goes on 0 and half on -0.5. A draw loses half the stake. Fair price about 1.98. At 1.95, expected value is about -1.2%.
- Home -0.5. Same as backing home to win in the 1X2. Fair price about 2.27.
- Away +0.25. A draw wins half. Fair price about 2.02.
- Double chance 1X (home or draw). Fair price about 1.44. At 1.40, expected value about -2.5%.
Quarter lines feel complicated at first, but they're just two bets in one. Asian lines often carry slightly lower margins than the 1X2, which is one reason serious soccer bettors like them. Our French exact-score guide and English MLS guide show handicaps in other contexts.
Other Premier League markets
- Totals. Over/under 2.5 goals is the classic line. Some books offer quarter lines like 2.25 or 2.75 that split your stake in the same way as Asian handicaps.
- Both teams to score. Yes or no. Useful when you think both attacks are better than both defences.
- Half-time markets. First-half goals are usually fewer than second-half goals, so half-time lines are lower.
- Goalscorer props. First, last or anytime scorer. Fun, high margin, and lineup news matters a lot.
- Cards and corners. Popular, but depend heavily on referees and game state. Margins are often higher.
- Bet builders. Combine several markets from one match. Legs are often correlated and the margin stacks up.
Form tables lie more than you think
"They've won four of their last six" is the most common reason people give for a bet. It sounds convincing. It's often noise. Take a side whose true chance of winning any given match is exactly 50%, like a mid-table club against mid-table opposition. Pure luck alone gives them four or more wins in a six-match stretch about 34.4% of the time, and seven or more wins in ten matches about 17.2% of the time. Across 20 clubs, several will be on a "hot streak" at any moment without anything having changed.
Even a whole season is a small sample. Over 38 matches, a 50% side would land somewhere between about 15 and 23 wins in eight seasons out of ten, just from randomness. That's a huge range in the table. So:
- Look at how a team is winning or losing, not just the results. Chances created and conceded tell you more than the scoreline.
- Give the last six matches some weight, but not all of it. Last season and the squad on paper still matter early on.
- Be extra careful in August and September, when there's barely any current-season data and prices lean on reputation.
- Remember the market sees the same form table you do. A "hot" team's price usually already reflects it.
Home advantage and travel
Home teams in top European leagues have historically won more often than away teams, and the Premier League is no different. How big that edge is has moved around over the years, and seasons played without crowds showed that much of it seemed to come from the fans. For a simple model, many bettors add a small boost to the home side's expected goals and take a little from the away side's. Travel in England is short compared with Canada, so the edge isn't about jet lag; it's about familiarity, crowd and routine. If your model gives home teams a huge edge, it's probably overdoing it.
Things that move Premier League prices
- Team news. A missing first-choice goalkeeper or striker can shift a line noticeably.
- Fixture congestion. Clubs in European competitions play midweek too. Rotation after a Thursday night away trip is a real thing.
- The festive period. Around Boxing Day and New Year, clubs can play several matches in a short window. Squad depth matters more than usual.
- International breaks. A few times a season the league pauses for national-team games. Players come back tired or injured, and form can reset.
- Manager changes. A new manager sometimes brings a short-term bounce, though the evidence on how big and how lasting is mixed.
- Promoted clubs. Teams coming up from the Championship often find the step up hard, but each season is different.
- End-of-season motivation. A side with nothing to play for in May can look different from a side fighting relegation.
Why crypto for Premier League betting?
Crypto cashiers run around the clock, which suits weekend football. Coins move on Saturday mornings when some bank transfers don't. You can top up at 6 AM before an early kick-off, and withdrawals back to your wallet often arrive the same day once approved. The trade-offs are real, though:
- Volatile coins move your bankroll. Bitcoin or ether can swing more in a weekend than your bets do.
- Stablecoins track the US dollar, not the Canadian dollar. Your balance in CAD still moves with the exchange rate.
- Conversion costs add up. If you lose 0.5% to the spread converting CAD to a stablecoin and another 0.5% converting back, that's about C$4.99 on a C$500 round trip, before any network or withdrawal fees.
If you're weighing coins, our USDC betting guide explains stablecoins, and the Litecoin guide covers a fast, cheap coin for top-ups. For the step-by-step deposit process, read our crypto deposit walkthrough.
Futures with crypto: the locked-money problem
Title, top-four and relegation bets are placed in August and settled in May. That's about nine months of your stake sitting on a sportsbook. Two costs to think about:
- Opportunity cost. If you could otherwise earn about 4% a year on that money, nine months locked costs you about 2.99%. That's on top of the margin in the futures price.
- Coin exposure. If the stake and payout are in bitcoin, your result in CAD depends on the coin price in May, not just the table. A winning ticket can still be worth less than you hoped.
Futures margins are also bigger than single-match margins. A relegation board is a good example. Three teams go down, so in a fair world the implied chances for all 20 clubs would add up to 300%. If the prices add up to 330%, the book's cut is about 10% relative to what must happen, which is double or triple a normal match line.
A futures bet can still make sense if you've got a strong view early, but treat it as a small slice of the bankroll, not the main plan. If you're holding a futures ticket late in the season, our hedging guide walks through locking in a result.

Accumulators: the Saturday trap
The weekend acca is a Premier League tradition. It's also where the margin compounds. If each leg carries about a 5% margin, here's what the house edge looks like as you add legs, using 1.80 per leg as an example price:
| Legs | Combined odds at 1.80 each | Approximate built-in house edge |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 5.83 | 13.6% |
| 5 | 18.90 | 21.6% |
| 7 | 61.22 | 28.9% |
A seven-fold might pay 61 to 1, but you're giving away nearly 29% in expected value. A small fun acca is fine; a big one every week is a slow leak. Run any combination through the parlay calculator and read our parlay guide for how correlated legs are handled.
Live betting and the late-goal problem
Live betting a 10 AM kick-off with a coffee is fun. But soccer has a twist: a lot of goals come late. As a modelling assumption, say about a fifth of a match's expected goals come in the last 15 minutes plus stoppage time. Then the chance of at least one late goal is:
| Expected goals in the match | Chance of a goal in the final 15 + stoppage |
|---|---|
| 2.2 | 35.6% |
| 2.7 | 41.7% |
| 3.2 | 47.3% |
So that "safe" 1-0 lead at the 75th minute is often a lot less safe than it feels. Live prices already know this, which is why backing a leading team late pays so little. If you're tempted by those short live prices, remember: you're risking a lot to win a little, and a late equaliser takes it all.
Also remember that live margins are usually higher than pre-match, and your stream may be behind the book's data feed. Don't bet on what you think you just saw.
A weekend routine for Premier League bettors
- Friday evening: check your bankroll in CAD and decide this weekend's maximum stake. Top up if needed while you're awake and alert.
- Friday night: look at the fixtures, form and any known injuries. Pick at most three or four matches.
- Before kick-off: confirm lineups if you can. Strip the margin from the prices you like and compare with your own estimate.
- Bet only clear edges at a flat 1% to 2% stake. No "one more for the early game".
- Log every bet: match, market, odds, stake in coin and CAD, result.
- Sunday night: review. Separate betting result from coin price movement.
- Monthly: withdraw profits above your target and reset the bankroll.
What a season of small bets costs
Here's a reality check. Suppose you place three C$10 bets every weekend for all 38 rounds. If the average margin on your bets is 3%, you're paying about C$34.20 over the season for the privilege; at 5% it's C$57.00; at 7% it's C$79.80. That's what you'd lose on average if you had no edge at all. Low-margin markets (main 1X2, Asian handicaps, totals) cost far less over a season than high-margin ones (bet builders, props, big accas). Choosing your markets is part of your strategy.
A worked example, one weekend
Invented numbers again. You hold C$500 on a sportsbook in a stablecoin. Friday night you decide on three bets at C$10 each.
- Match one: your model says 1.5 – 1.2 expected goals. The home draw-no-bet price is 1.70 versus your fair 1.69. That's roughly break-even, so you skip it. Discipline.
- Match two: you estimate 1.9 – 0.9, so a home win is about 60.8% (fair 1.64). The book offers 1.75. Expected value: 0.608 × 1.75 − 1 = about +6.4%. That's a bet.
- Match three: your model says over 2.5 goals is about 53%, fair price about 1.88. The book offers 1.95, about +3.5% expected value. Small edge, small bet.
Two bets, C$20 in total. Whatever happens, you log it, and you don't add a fourth just because the early game went your way.
Picking a crypto sportsbook for Premier League betting
- Licence and rules. Who licenses the site? Read how it settles abandoned or postponed matches.
- Depth of markets. Asian lines, quarter totals, halves and props on every match, not just the big ones.
- Prices. Compare a few 1X2 and Asian lines. A book that's consistently a couple of percent worse costs you all season.
- Stablecoin balance. Can you hold your balance in USDT or USDC to avoid coin swings?
- Withdrawal speed and minimums. Our crypto withdrawal time guide explains what to expect.
- Limits. Some books limit winning bettors quickly. Spread your action if that matters to you.
Settlement rules to read once
- Postponed matches. Many books void bets if a match isn't played within a set window, but the window varies.
- Abandoned matches. Some markets that are already decided may stand; others void. Each book writes its own rules.
- Goalscorer non-starters. If your player doesn't play, the bet is usually void, but check how "came on as a substitute" is treated.
- Own goals. Usually don't count for anytime or first goalscorer bets. Read the rule.
Common mistakes
- Backing a team in the 1X2 and forgetting the draw loses.
- Betting at 4:30 AM Pacific without checking lineups.
- Holding the whole bankroll in bitcoin and calling it a "good weekend" because the coin went up.
- Locking big stakes into nine-month futures.
- Making a seven-leg acca every Saturday.
- Assuming a 1-0 lead at 75 minutes is safe.
- Following the club you love with your heart instead of your numbers.
Quick glossary

- Double chance: two of the three outcomes in one bet, like home or draw.
- Expected goals: an estimate of how many goals a team should score based on chance quality.
- Acca: an accumulator, the British word for a parlay.
- Bet builder: several markets from the same match combined in one bet.
- Stablecoin: a crypto token designed to track a currency, usually the US dollar.
- Overround: how much the implied chances add up to above 100%; the book's margin.

My take
Betting the Premier League from Canada with crypto works well if you plan around the UK clock, remember the 90-minute rule, strip the margin from every price and keep your bankroll in something stable enough to read. Use Asian lines and main markets to keep costs low, treat futures and big accas as small extras, and respect late goals. Do that, keep a log in CAD, and your Saturday mornings can stay fun for the whole season.
Questions players ask
What time do Premier League games start in Canada?
Common Saturday UK slots of 12:30, 3:00 and 5:30 PM are usually 7:30 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM Eastern, or 4:30, 7:00 and 9:30 AM Pacific. Times shift when clocks change, so check on the day.
Does extra time count in Premier League bets?
League matches have no extra time, and match markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. If you back a team in the 1X2 and it ends level, you lose.
What is draw no bet in soccer betting?
It's the Asian handicap 0 line: you win if your team wins and get your stake back on a draw. In our 1.5 – 1.2 goals example, the fair home price is about 1.69.
Should I hold my betting balance in bitcoin or a stablecoin?
A stablecoin keeps your results easier to read, though it tracks the US dollar, not the Canadian dollar. Bitcoin can swing more in a weekend than your bets do.
Are Premier League accumulators a good bet?
They're fun but expensive. With about a 5% margin per leg, a five-leg acca carries about a 21.6% house edge and a seven-leg acca about 28.9%.
