You pull up a Toronto FC match and see three numbers, a couple of handicaps, a goals line and a dozen props. What do they actually mean, and how do you tell a fair price from a bad one? This guide walks through every common TFC market, shows you how to take the bookmaker's cut out of the odds, and builds a simple goals model you can reuse every week. It's written for Reds fans who want to bet with their head as well as their scarf.
The fine print first: 19+ in most provinces, 18+ in Manitoba and Quebec. This site doesn't serve Ontario or Alberta residents, so if you're in Toronto itself, Ontario's own regulated market is your route, not this site. Cloudbet, which we link to, holds a Curaçao licence and is not authorized by any Canadian province. All prices and percentages here are illustrative examples calculated with simple formulas, not current lines or predictions.

A quick TFC primer for bettors
Toronto FC joined Major League Soccer in 2007 as the league's first Canadian club and plays its home games at BMO Field by the lake. Its best season came in 2017, when it won MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield for the best regular-season record, and the Canadian Championship in the same year. It also reached the MLS Cup final in 2016 and 2019. The club plays in the Eastern Conference.
For betting, the useful takeaways are simple. TFC has a big, loyal following across Canada, so its prices can carry a little extra fan money. It plays in a league known for parity, long travel and a salary structure that keeps most teams close together, which means upsets are common and draws matter. And its home ground sees cold, windy weather at both ends of the season, which can shape how games play out.
The three-way moneyline
The main market on any TFC match is the three-way moneyline, often shown as 1X2. You pick a home win, a draw, or an away win, settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties don't count, even in a cup or playoff game, unless the market says "to advance" or "to lift the trophy".
Here's an example board for a TFC home match:
| Outcome | Decimal | American | Implied chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto FC win | 2.10 | +110 | 47.6% |
| Draw | 3.50 | +250 | 28.6% |
| Visitors win | 3.40 | +240 | 29.4% |
A C$10 bet on TFC at 2.10 returns C$21 if they win, which is C$11 profit. If you prefer American odds, +110 means C$100 wins C$110. Our odds calculator flips between formats for you.
Stripping out the margin
Those three implied chances add up to 105.6%. The 5.6% above 100 is the bookmaker's margin. Divide each number by 1.056 and you get the book's fair view: TFC 45.1%, draw 27.1%, visitors 27.9%. That's the starting line you're trying to beat. If your own estimate for TFC is below 47.6%, the home price is a losing bet over time, even if TFC is the "right" pick to win.
Build a simple goals model
You don't need a supercomputer to price a soccer match. A rough estimate of how many goals each side scores on average, plugged into a standard Poisson model, gets you most of the way. Start with each team's goals for and against over recent games, adjust for home and away, and settle on an expected-goals number for each side. Expected goals (xG) data, which measures shot quality, is even better than raw goals because it's less noisy.
Here's what different matchups look like when you run the numbers:
| TFC xG v visitors xG | TFC win | Draw | Visitors win | Over 2.5 | Both score | Fair TFC price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.7 v 1.0 | 53.8% | 24.0% | 22.2% | 50.6% | 51.7% | 1.86 |
| 1.5 v 1.2 | 44.1% | 25.5% | 30.4% | 50.6% | 54.3% | 2.27 |
| 1.3 v 1.3 | 36.8% | 26.4% | 36.8% | 48.2% | 52.9% | 2.72 |
| 1.2 v 1.5 | 30.4% | 25.5% | 44.1% | 50.6% | 54.3% | 3.29 |
| 1.0 v 1.8 | 20.8% | 23.1% | 56.1% | 53.1% | 52.8% | 4.81 |
Two things jump out. First, the draw sits around 23% to 26% in almost every matchup, so it's never a throwaway result in MLS. Second, a team needs a clear edge in expected goals, something like 1.7 against 1.0, before it's even a slight favourite above 50%.
Putting the model next to the price
Say your numbers come out at TFC 1.5, visitors 1.2. Against our example board:
- TFC at 2.10: 0.441 × 2.10 − 1 = −7.3% expected return.
- Draw at 3.50: 0.255 × 3.50 − 1 = −10.8%.
- Visitors at 3.40: 0.304 × 3.40 − 1 = +3.3%.
So even with TFC rated as the better side, the value is on the road team, because the home price has been pushed too short. If your model says the game is a dead-even 1.3 v 1.3, the visitors at 3.40 jump to about +25%, and the TFC price is a disaster at roughly −23%. That's the whole game in one example: you're not picking winners, you're finding prices that are too long.
Be humble about the inputs. A model is only as good as its expected-goals numbers, and early in a season those are shaky. Use it to spot big gaps, not to chase a 1% edge.
Draw no bet and double chance
If the draw scares you, two markets soften it:
- Draw no bet (DNB): you back one team, and your stake comes back if it's a draw. Remove the draw from the 1.5 v 1.2 model and TFC wins 59.2% of the decisive games, so a fair DNB price is about 1.69. If the book offers 1.60, skip it; if it offers 1.75, it's worth a look.
- Double chance: you cover two of the three outcomes, such as "TFC or draw". The price is short, but it's useful when you think a team is underrated and the draw is likely.
Our explainer on how to bet on MLS from Canada covers these markets across the whole league, if you want a broader view beyond Toronto.
Handicaps and goal lines
Asian handicap
Asian handicaps remove the draw by giving one team a head start. TFC −0.5 is the same as a TFC win. TFC +0.5 wins if they win or draw. Whole-number lines like −1 return your stake when TFC wins by exactly one goal. Quarter lines like −0.75 split your stake across two lines, so you can win half or lose half. Always check how the book displays it.
Totals
Over/under 2.5 goals is the most popular total. In our model, most realistic TFC matchups sit near 50% for over 2.5, so the market lives or dies on small differences in expected goals. A one-tenth change in each team's xG moves the over by a few percentage points, which is often enough to cross from bad to good value at a typical 1.90 price. You need about 52.6% to break even at 1.90.
Both teams to score
BTTS sits in the low-to-mid 50s across the table above. It's popular because it feels exciting, but it's priced tightly. Look for it when both defences are leaking chances and both attacks are getting good looks, not just because the last two games went 2–2.
What really moves TFC odds
Travel
MLS covers a whole continent. A road trip from Toronto to the West Coast crosses three time zones and can take most of a day. Midweek games add another layer when clubs play twice in four days. Teams on long trips or tight turnarounds often rotate, and rotation changes expected goals more than a single headline stat ever will.
Weather and season timing
Early-season games in March can be cold and windy by the lake, and late-season games can feel the same. Windy, wet conditions tend to drag scoring down a little and can make long balls and set pieces more important. It's a small factor, but in a market as tight as over/under 2.5, small factors matter.
Designated players and injuries
MLS rules let clubs pay a small number of designated players far above the normal budget. When one of those players is out, the price should move, and often it moves too much. Check who is actually confirmed in the line-up before you bet, because team news closer to kick-off is much more reliable than early-week guesses.
International windows
Unlike many leagues, MLS doesn't always pause for every international window. A club can lose key players to national team duty and keep playing. The odds don't always catch this quickly, especially for less famous players.
Cup and playoff games
In the Canadian Championship, Leagues Cup or the playoffs, be clear about what you're betting: the 90-minute result or the team to advance. Playoff formats in MLS have changed several times over the years, so read the current rules before you bet on a series or a knockout game.
A worked TFC week
Let's run a complete example with made-up numbers. TFC hosts a midweek game after a long road trip. Recent form suggests about 1.4 expected goals for TFC and 1.3 for the visitors, but TFC is rotating two regulars, so you trim TFC to 1.3. The game is now a coin flip on goals.
- Model: 1.3 v 1.3 gives TFC 36.8%, draw 26.4%, visitors 36.8%.
- Book: 2.10 / 3.50 / 3.40, so the margin is 5.6%.
- Compare: TFC needs 47.6% at 2.10, you have 36.8%. Clear pass. The visitors need 29.4% at 3.40, you have 36.8%. That's a real gap.
- Sanity check: Are the visitors also tired or missing players? If yes, trim your number. If the gap survives, you have a bet.
- Stake: keep it to one unit, like 1% to 2% of your betting bankroll.
Will the visitors win? Most of the time, no. They win about 37% of the time in this model. The point is that 3.40 pays enough to make that 37% profitable over many similar bets.

The Reds fan trap
Betting on the team you love is natural, and it's also where most fans give money away. A few habits keep you honest:
- Write your numbers before you see the odds. Once you see 2.10, your brain will find reasons it's a good price.
- Be willing to bet against TFC. If the visitors are the value, take them, or skip the game. Betting on your team out of loyalty is just a donation.
- Don't chase a bad result. A loss on Saturday doesn't make Wednesday's price any better.
- Watch the hype weeks. Rivalry games and big signings bring extra fan money, and that money makes TFC prices shorter.
Futures: MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield
Season-long futures on TFC carry bigger margins than single games, often well above 20% across the board. The Supporters' Shield rewards consistency over a full season, while MLS Cup is decided by knockout soccer where luck plays a bigger role. If you like a futures ticket, keep it small and compare the price with a rough path calculation, the same way you'd price any long shot. For the full futures picture, our MLS betting guide has a section on both markets.
Common mistakes with TFC odds
- Forgetting the draw. It lands about a quarter of the time in balanced games.
- Betting 90-minute markets in a knockout game by accident. Know whether you're betting the result or the team to advance.
- Ignoring rotation. Midweek games after long trips often see changed line-ups.
- Parlaying TFC with three other favourites. Margins stack fast. Our parlay calculator shows how quickly a small edge disappears.
- Treating a two-game streak as a trend. Soccer is noisy. Look at expected goals over 8 to 10 games.
Bankroll basics
Pick a season budget you could lose without stress, then split it into units of 1% to 2%. Bet one unit per game, two at most when your edge is unusually clear. Keep a simple record: date, market, your number, the price, the stake, and the result. After 50 bets, you'll know whether your model is adding anything or just making you feel clever.
Legality, crypto and tax
Each province decides how online betting works within its borders. Ontario runs its own regulated market, which is why this site doesn't serve Ontario residents. In BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, PlayNow is the authorized option, and Quebec has Loto-Québec's Mise-o-jeu. Offshore sites like Cloudbet aren't authorized by any province. Our page on whether online betting is legal in Canada explains it plainly. If you use crypto, remember that coin prices can move while a bet is open. Recreational betting winnings are generally not taxed in Canada; our guide on taxes and betting winnings covers the details.

My take
Toronto FC odds aren't mysterious once you know how to read them. Strip the margin, build a rough goals model, and compare. Most weeks, you'll find TFC priced about right or a little short because of fan money, and the occasional value will sit on the other side, in the draw, or in a goals market. Bet the price, not the badge, and you'll enjoy match days a lot more.
Questions players ask
How do Toronto FC betting odds work?
The main market is the three-way moneyline: TFC win, draw, or visitors win after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. At 2.10, a C$10 bet returns C$21 if TFC wins, which is C$11 profit.
Does extra time count in TFC bets?
Usually not. Standard soccer markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalties only count in markets like 'to advance' or 'to lift the trophy'.
How do I find the bookmaker's margin on a TFC game?
Add up the implied chances of all three outcomes (1 ÷ decimal odds). Anything over 100% is the margin. In our example, 2.10 / 3.50 / 3.40 adds up to 105.6%.
What is draw no bet on a Toronto FC game?
You back TFC (or the visitors) and get your stake back if the game ends in a draw. It's a safer way to back a team when you're worried about a tie.
Has Toronto FC won MLS Cup?
Yes. TFC won MLS Cup in 2017, the same season it won the Supporters' Shield and the Canadian Championship. It also reached the final in 2016 and 2019.
Is Cloudbet licensed in Canada?
No. Cloudbet holds a Curaçao licence and is not authorized by any Canadian province. This site does not serve Ontario or Alberta residents.
